The first picture is of the wood chunck and the second is the wood chips. Both filter medias are inside the mesh baskets that were designed to fit into the filters.

The first picture is of the wood chunck after the gas had passed through. The black on the wood is the tar that was removed from the gas. The second picture is the insulation being wrapped around the steel mesh.

Both of these pictures show the insulation wrapped around the steel mesh before it is placed inside the filter.
